Luis Salinas is a self-taught guitarist from Argentina. Before traveling abroad with his music, Luis made a very important name for himself in his country and is currently acclaimed to be the ambassador of their musical culture.
In 1993 was invited to play in the UMEA Jazz Festival in Sweden. His musical travels have taken him to some of the most renowned world stages, including the famed Montreux Jazz Festival where he played for the 30th representing GRP Records. While in New York, Luis recorded two CDs for the GRP label, “Salinas” in 1996, which was produced by famed producers Tommy LiPuma and Ricky Peterson, and “Rosario” recorded with the famous pianist, Bob James. It was because of these opportunities in New York that Luis came to the attention and admiration of such luminaries as George Benson who has touted Luis as amongst their very favorite guitarists in the World.
Luis Salinas has won numerous awards during his extensive career, including many Latin Grammy`s nominations. Luis was invited to Central America by the great Chucho Valdez and played to an audience of 30,000 concert goers in Havana. Chucho Valdez says of Luis, “I doubt there could be two guitarists in the world who could play as well and know the guitar as well as Luis Salinas. He is out of this world!”
Luis Salinas is an incredible vocalist as well as being one of the premier guitarists in the world. His friend, famous Argentine singer, Mercedes Sosa says of Luis, “His unique skill to give expression to the music of our composers with his guitar is equaled by the depth and intimacy of his singing and interpretation of the words of our poets”.Luis has the unique ability to play the most beautiful renditions of the indigenous music of Argentina and then segue easily into north American jazz, Latin and blues. He is equally adept at and excels at both styles. One of his dreams came true when he was asked to share the stage with BB King in Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires and San Pablo.
